General coloration is dark brown. Single row of teeth in the upper jaw (Ref. 37108).
Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: Eastern Atlantic: Azores (Ref. 3857) and Madeira south to Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. Indo-West Pacific: Africa to South China Sea, Australia and New Zealand.
Also mesopelagic (Ref. 3587). Remains of fish have been found in one stomach (Ref. 6187).
