Diagnosis

Diagnosis: head length 34.0-35.6 %SL; snout length 32.4-32.5 % head length; lower jaw length 31.1-34.8 % head length; outer oral dentition well developed bicuspid; lachrymal depth 20.4-21.9 % head length; cheek depth 21.6-22.8 % head length; interorbital width 19.6-21.1 % head length; eye diameter 33.6-36.0 % head length; predorsal distance 37.2-39.6 %SL; body depth 34.0-34.9 %SL; caudal peduncle depth 62.5-65.4 % caudal peduncle length (Ref. 55898).

Description: relatively elongate species; dorsal body profile convex; ventral body profile almost straight; head relatively small; snout short; mouth small; gape inclined at about 10° to horizontal; maxilla extending to just beyond vertical at anterior margin of eye; outer oral teeth bicuspid, becoming unicuspid posteriorly, closely packed; inner oral teeth much smaller and tricuspid; 2-3 series of scales on cheek; upper margin of eye not touching dorsal head profile; lower pharyngeal jaw relatively wide; some central pharyngeal teeth enlarged but not molariform; gill-rakers on lower limb short (Ref. 55898).

Coloration: Preserved: Females and immature males: body pale yellowish; 8-9 very faint vertical bars below dorsal fin, only visible on dorsal part of body; some specimens uniformely pale; snout brownish; dorsal fin with a pale grey submarginal band, white lappets and grey tips; caudal fin pale with faint grey trailing edge; anal and ventral fins pale; some specimens with faint grey leading edge to anal and ventral fins (Ref. 55898).
