Diagnosis: distance from snout to dorsal-fin base 43-55% of SL; body depth 6.7-7.0x and head length 4.6-4.7x SL; eye diameter 3.1-3.3x head length; scale formula 8.5-9.5/45-46/4.5; 14 scales around caudal peduncle; 8 dorsal-fin branched rays; 14 anal-fin branched rays; 9 dark vertical bars on sides (Ref. 2940, 81282).

Description: body spindle-shaped; snout blunt, dorsal profile slightly oblique; nostrils aligned ventrally; scaly process at bases of pelvic fins well developed; dorsal fin beginning just behind midpoint of body; tips of pelvics extending backwards beyond anal-fin origin; gill rakers small; D:III,8; A:III,14; P:I,14; V:I,8 (Ref. 2940, 81282).

Coloration: dark head, snout and back; 9 lateral vertical bands: first 4 rhomboid, following more triangular, last bar on caudal-fin base; longest simple ray of dorsal and all branched dorsal rays are marked with black; caudal-fin lobes dark (Ref. 2940, 81282).
