Diagnosis

Distinguished from other members of the genus Pseudophoxinus by the following characters: complete lateral line with 53-61 pored scales; dorsal fin rays III 8, anal fin rays III 9; gill rakers 11-14; a preopercular-mandibular cephalic sensory canal interrupted between the lower jaw and preoperculum; a considerably laterally compressed body with a partly scaleless keel on the belly (Ref. 33550).
