Very rare but prized fish in the Mekong. Catch, sale and transportation are forbidden under the Fiat-Law on Fishery Management and Administration No. 33 KRO.CHOR of 19 March 1987, as Pangasianodon gigas (Ref. 12217). Found in Ban Hang Khone at Don Khone, 3 km below the fall line of the great waterfalls of the Mekong basin at Lee Pee (Ref. 9497). In Bokeo Province, this species migrates upstream during April-May. This movement is triggered by the first rain and increased water turbidity. Reported to spend the dry season in deep pools in the Mekong mainstream in Xayaboury Province (Ref. 37770). Museum: Mekong river, Laos BMNH 1977.4.21.1-2 (Ref. 31982). Also Ref. 3881, 4792, 30857, 36654, 37772, 43281, 56905.
