Type locality, Amazonas, Caño Päwä, approximately 30 minutes by foot upstream from its mouth into Río Cuao, approximately 30 minutes by boat downstream from Puerto Nuevo, MBUCV-V-33738 (holotype of Lithogenes wahari, 5.72 cm SL, female). Known only from the middle section of the Río Cuao, a clear-water tributary of the Río Sipapo of the Orinoco River basin of southwestern Venezuela (Ref. 83588).
