Native to most of eastern Canada from Newfoundland and Labrador to western side of Hudson Bay; south in Atlantic, Great Lakes (Ref. 86798). Ranges from Nunavut, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec (Ref. 58426) to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia; introduced into some provinces (Ref. 52559). Most esteemed game fish in eastern Canada.
