Comments: Indigenous in Lake Léman (Lake Geneva) and Bourget and introduced in other mountain lakes. Reared for restocking and human consumption (Ref. 30578). Established in 138 lakes. Origin of stock found in Lake Allos studied (Ref. 45052 ). Likely to benefit from environmental regulations passed in France on 8.12.88. (Ref. 2163). Status of threat: Vulnerable (Ref. 11941, 74334).

Issue
The species Salvelinus aureolus Bean, 1887 is considered as valid in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Fuller et al. (1999: Ref. 87253). Treated as synonym of Salvelinus alpinus oquassa by Qadi (1974: Ref. 87252); and probably a synonym of Salvelinus alpinus (see Nelson et al. 2004: Ref. 52299 for taxonomic issues). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
