Etymology: Uegitglanis: Uegit = a pool in Uegit, Somalia + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish. This fish was found in a pool associated with a spring (Ref. 45335).

Africa: caves near the Uegit and the Uebi Scebeli rivers in Somalia.

Max length : 10.1 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 3820)
Cave-restricted species. Depth of water at type locality was 1.25 m. The temperature was 24°C, pH 8 and the hardness 300mg/l Ca. To date there are no other data available on the biology of the species (Ref. 78218).
