Short description
Dorsal spines (total): 22; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 28. Can be diagnosed by the following characters: poorly developed cranial spines; dorsal fin with 22 spines and 20 rays; two conspicuous sooty black blotches among the first three dorsal spines, bordered underneath by a white space; anal fin with two spines and 28 rays; caudal and pectoral fins with 13 rays; pelvic fin with one spine and three rays; supraorbital cirru high, with a broad base and not symmetrically branched, with the branches subdivided in little projections; nasal cirru broad at base with branches at the distal end; a pair of papillae in front and posteriorly of the supraorbital cirru; three rows of diagonal greenish-olive spots, one at the bottom of the lateral field of the abdomen, the second one just above the lateral line, and the third one, at the dorsal end bordering the dorsal fin; exterior edge of the first dorsal spine, orange, bordered anteriorly by white with the first two rays with blotches and black occelli; ring that surrounds the iris orange, with a metallic hue; throat and abdominal region whitish (Ref. 76843).
