Etymology: Heteromormyrus: Greek, heteros = other + Greek mormyros = a kind of fish similar to Boops sp. (Ref. 45335); szaboi: Named in honor of the late Dr. Thomas Szabo of the Laboratoire de Neurophysiologie Sensorielle Comparée (CNRS) at Gif-sur-Yvette near Paris, one of the founding fathers of the field of electroreception (Ref. 52128).

Morphologie | Morphométrie
Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 18-21; Rayons mous anaux: 21 - 25. Body long and slender, laterally compressed (Ref. 52128). Head broadly rounded with a terminally positioned mouth (Ref. 52128). Dorsal fin origin set far back and behind that of anal fin (Ref. 52128). Caudal fin with broadly rounded lobes (Ref. 52128). Scales cycloid with reticulate striae except in centre, extending anteriorly to operculum, pectoral fins and pelvic fins(Ref. 52128). Dark brown or black colour with a distinctive vertical black band from dorsal origin (Ref. 52128).
