Short description
Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12 - 14; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 8 - 9; Vertebrae: 40 - 43. Description: snout rounded; complete range of variation between soft-lipped form and shovel-lipped form; first dorsal fin ray long and slender (Ref. 4967). 10-14 predorsal scale rows; 22-24 abdominal vertebrae, 16-19 caudal vertebrae and 10-12 predorsal vertebrae; 14-16 rib pairs; last simple dorsal ray flexible and not heavily ossified (Ref. 74045).
Biology

Inhabits inshore areas of the lake, but ascends rivers to breed (Ref. 4967). Found in all types of habitat and occurs in groups of about 25 individuals (Ref. 5595).
