Etymology: Muraenichthys: Latin,muraena = morey eel + Greek, ichtys = fish (Ref. 45335). More on author: Fowler.
This species is probably a synonym of Scolecenchelys godeffroyi (Regan, 1909) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Castle & McCosker (1999, Ref. 40863). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
