Short description
Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal soft rays: 8. Dorsal profile convex. Mouth extend towards 1/3 of the eye interior. Cephalic pores slightly visible. Long barbels, anterior part end extends to posterior half of eye, posterior pair extending to opercle. Lateral line complete somewhat lower, under the dorsal fin. External border of dorsal fin straight, last simple ray in past ossified and serrated behind or at distant end. Short gill rakers on 1st branched arch. Dorsal: 3 simple, 7 branched. Anal: 3 simple, 5 arched. Yellow body, caudal lobes and dorsal fin marked with red in adults.

Affinities: close to B. guineensis (sympatric) and B. dialonensis (Ref. 2940). Maximum TL was recorded at 8.3 cm (Ref. 2801).
