Short description

Dorsal soft rays (total): 17 - 21; Anal soft rays: 26 - 31. Body depth 1.8-2.7x, head length 3.0-4.1 x SL. Caudal peduncle 0.7-1.4 x long than high. Short snout slightly prominent 0.7-1.6 x ocular diameter (3.7-6.1 x head length). Adipose base short 0.5-0.8 x its distance from dorsal fin. Pectoral 0.5-1.1 x head length. Silvery body, pectorals and superior lobe of caudal grayish, inferior lobe of caudal and anal red. Basal part of adipose black.

Common in large rivers of the Sudan region (Ref. 7095).
