Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 0; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 12; Afterflossenstacheln 0; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 8. Distinguished by having 10-17 sharply defined and regular, vertical, dark brown bars on the sides distinctly wider than interspaces; the top of the head vermiculated; a complete black bar at caudal fin base; in life, a bright red caudal fin, bright yellow dorsal, anal, pelvic and pectoral fins; a complete lateral line (Ref. 27732).
