Short description
Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 8; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 13 - 18; Vertebrae: 38 - 40. Caudal fin with 19 rays (Ref. 2196). Differs from the nominal subspecies in having less branched rays in the anal fin, and a much deeper body, head and caudal peduncle.
Biology
    Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)
Inhabits rivers with very calm waters. Feeds on insect larvae and dead insects (Ref. 9696), as well as on crustaceans and diatoms. Reproduction occurs in April to June (Ref. 30578).
