Etymology: Noturus: Greek, noton = back + Greek, oura = tail; refred to the position of the tail over the back (Ref. 45335);  eleutherus: eleutherus meaning free, referring to the incomplete fusion of the posterior portion of the adipose fin to the body (Ref. 10294).
