背面の脊椎 (合計): 0; 肛門の骨 0; 臀鰭: 24 - 29. Body moderately elongate. Snout moderate, about 3/4 eye diameter; maxilla moderate, tip pointed, reaching onto inter-operculum, but not to edge of gill cover; gill cover canals of panamensis-type. Anal fin fairly long, its origin before midpoint of dorsal fin base. A narrow silver stripe along flank, about 1/2 eye diameter.
Occurs in coastal waters. In the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica it was recorded only in the more oceanic outer part of the Gulf, along sandy beaches.
