Dorsale stekels (totaal): 2 - 3; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal): 7; Anale stekels 2-3; Anale zachte stralen: 6. Usually silvery grey with a dark band running along the middle of the trunk.

Occurs in large dense populations, among stones and vegetation, in small ponds and streams. Feeds on plants and small animals. Spawns between April and June.
