Short description
Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 14; Anal soft rays: 8 - 12. Pointed snout. Head length 22.9-31.8% SL. Lateral line not always complete: complete in Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone (37-45 lateral line scales, 42-45 lateral stripe); incomplete in Senegal, Niger-Bénoué, Chad, Bandama, Comoe, Volta and Pra (12-44 lateral line scales, 39-45 lateral stripe). 6.5-8.5 lateral median stripe scales bet. adipose fin post. end and caudal fin base. Brown lateral stripe from snout to caudal. In young, band composed of series round spots. Yellow body, brown back, pink fins. Dorsal 2-3 transverse bands.
