Short description
Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 72 - 73; Anal soft rays: 55 - 56; Vertebrae: 53 - 54. The light, yellowish coloration facilitates identification. Head oval-shaped in dorsal outline; snout rounded. Frontal fontanelle usually short and squat (`sole-shaped'); occipital fontanelle small and oval-shaped. The supraorbital and the `dermosphenotic' bones become sutured. Tooth plates small. Pectoral spine robust and slightly curved. gill rakers long and distantly set. Suprabranchial organ well developed. Openings of the secondary canals of the lateral line appear as irregular white spots on the body.
