পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ): 2 - 4; পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ): 14; পায়ূ কাঁটা 3; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 10. Large head and a very large light-producing organ beneath eye (Ref. 26938). Dark chocolate brown. Luminous organ light yellow, curtain black. Iris dark (Ref. 37108).

Inhabits steep drop-offs (Ref. 7251). Observed only on moonless nights (Ref. 9710). Moves to deep water during the day and ascends to near top of drop-offs at night (Ref. 26938).
