Etymology: Labeo: Latin, labeo = one who has large lips (Ref. 45335);  lineatus: From the Latin lineatus meaning line, thin mark; named after its lingitudinal dark bands on the flanks (Ref. 26190).

Inhabits Lake Tanganyika and larger rivers (Ref. 4967) .Lives over mud bottoms close to sand banks. The adults are often captured over sandy bottoms in deep water (Ref. 26190).
