Dorsal soft rays (total): 45-48; Anal soft rays: 37 - 39. This species is distinct in having the following set of characters: frontal crest is serrated with an anteriorly directed horn-like projection; scales on abdomen; anal fin elements total 37-39 (x = 38.1); dorsal fin elements total 45-48 (x = 46.9); longitudinal scale rows 33-42 (x = 37.7); vertebral count 10+21 or 10+22 with total vertebrae 31-32 (x =31.1); compared to its congeners, it has the greatest ratio between: head length (HL) and SL (0.186-0.214, x = 0.198), pectoral-fin length and SL (0.055-0.091, x = 0.075), pectoral-fin length and HL (0.275-0.462, x = 0.376), pectoral-fin length and pelvic-fin length (PEL) (0.878-1.367, x = 1.112), body depth and SL (0.135-0.155, x = 0.145), predorsal length and SL (0.233-0.262, x = 0.247), prepelvic length and SL (0.168-0.197, x = 0.184), and preanal length and SL (0.378-0.424, x = 0.396) (Ref. 75632) (Ref. 75632).
