Common along the rock-sand interface. Occasionally occurs in purely rocky habitats close to sand. Males blue and yellow, females brown. Males exhibit territoriality. Females, juveniles and non-territorial adult males occur singly or in groups of up to 30 fish. Schools with Cynotilapia afra and P. zebra. Feeds on plankton (Ref. 6256).
