Remark:	Indo-Pacific: off Mozambique, Hawaiian Islands, and possibly southern China. Nasal curtain incompletely united, not reaching the mouth. Maximum length 2.7 m. Family established by Nishida (1990) with the single species Plesiobatis daviesi, formerly assigned to the genus Urotrygon.
Etymology:	Greek, plesios = near + Greek, bathys = deep ( Ref. 45335).
