Diagnostic characters: lowermost posterior preopercular spine long and broad from flexion stage; early forming , elongate pectoral-fin rays; fin heavily pigmented from flexion stage; internal pigment on snout in all stages. Sequence of fin formation: pectoral (3.2 mm); caudal (3.8-6.1 mm); dorsal (5.8-8.1 mm); anal (5.8-8.1 mm); pelvic (7.5-8.1 mm). Larvae settle on the bottom at 12.7-17.2 mm BL.
