Additional Characters A short time before hatching there are 2 postanal bars of melanophores and 1 or 2 cells in the ventral caudal region. Black pigment over the abdomen and in the occipital regions. Typical egg diameters in the Baltic are 1.5-1.8 mm (Ref. 41, 5922, 5944). Mean egg diameter in the Barents Sea = 1.39 mm (Ref. 124126).
