Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Scotland to Namibia (Ref. 27121), including the western Mediterranean.
Adult biology: Found on sand, mud, shell and corals (Ref. 27121). Caught with bottom and pelagic trawls (Ref. 2683).
Diagnosis: Spined plates along the ventral margin of the abdomen. The caudal band of melanophores is located between 21st - 25th postanal segments. See also LARVAE table.
Climate Zone: subtropical; 58°N - 29°S
