Distribution: Mediterranean and Black Sea.
Adult biology: Found on the upper part of the continental shelf. Feed on small fishes and invertebrates. Breeding period between May and August (Ref. 4704).
Diagnosis: One or two melanophores on the dorsal and one on the ventral contour. Two to four melanophores on the caudal fin. See also LARVAE table.
Climate Zone: subtropical; 47°N - 30°N
