English name:
Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: southern and western Iceland and Norway south to Senegal. Also in the Mediterranean, including the Adriatic and Aegean but not in the Black Sea.
Adult biology: Benthic on sandy bottoms. Feeds on small bottom invertebrates mainly worms, snails and crustaceans. Eggs and larvae pelagic (Ref. 5968).
Diagnosis: Distinguishing characters at 5 mm: the edge of the preopercular crest finishes with a simple point and not with a fork as in C. lyra. See also LARVAE table.
Climate Zone: temperate; 65°N - 12°N
