Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Spain to Mauritania, including the Mediterranean.
Adult biology: Burrows in sand or mud.
Diagnosis: At 9 mm 147-157 myomeres, incl. 68-76 preanal myomeres; 4 teeth in each jaw, 5-7 abdominal spots, caudal pigment present. In later larvae dorsal fin originates behind anus; 3-4 caudal spots, 7 abdomminal spots; 156 myomeres. See also LARVAE table.
