Family:  Sebastidae (Rockfishes, rockcods and thornyheads), subfamily: Sebastolobinae
Max. size:  56.9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 200 - 2500 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Ireland to Senegal. Also known from the Mediterranean (Ref. 32504).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-10; Anal spines: 2-3; Anal soft rays: 5-6
Biology:  Occurs over muddy sand bottoms (Ref. 4570). Probably oviparous with eggs extruded in floating gelatinous masses. Feeds on deep-sea benthic crustaceans, cephalopods and fishes (Ref. 43448).
