Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Cichlasomatinae
Max. size:  15 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7.5; dH range: 2 - 15
Distribution:  Central America: Atlantic slope from Belize (Golden Creek) to Honduras (Motagua River basin).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits warm lakes and lagoons but prefers the lower and middle sections rivers. Limited number of population exists in the upper riverine sections.
IUCN Red List Status: Data deficient (DD); Date assessed: 10 August 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
