Max. size:  12.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 30 - 2250 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: one locality near the equator at 25°W. Eastern Pacific: at least 32°N to Chile (Ref. 35950), including the Hawaiian Islands (Ref. 583). Also known from Western Atlantic, from USA to Brazil (Ref. 47377).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 21-22; Vertebrae: 52-55. Branchiostegal rays: 8.
Biology:  Epipelagic to bathypelagic (Ref. 35950) and mesopelagic (Ref. 58302). Oviparous, with planktonic larvae, primarily in upper 250 m (Ref. 35950).
