Family:  Anthiadidae (Fairy basslets or Streamer basses)
Max. size:  13 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 15 - 70 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Moluccas to Fiji, north to the Izu Islands and Taiwan (Ref. 5193), south to New Caledonia and the Great Barrier Reef. Recently recorded from Tonga (Ref. 53797).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-20; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7. Description: Characterized by deep pink color; scales with yellow spot; upper operculum with large bright yellow spot; yellow bands radiating from eye; greatest depth of body 3.4-3.8 in SL; no prolonged dorsal spines; lunate caudal fin with prolonged lobes in male (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Occurs inshore near coral reefs (Ref. 7300). Also occurs in small groups near caves, ledges and drop-offs (Ref. 9710, 48635). Also a solitary species, sometimes in loose aggregations (Ref. 48635). Secretive, swims upside-down (Ref. 37816).
