Family:  Scaridae (Parrotfishes), subfamily: Scarinae
Max. size:  76 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 3 - 36 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: central Gulf of California to Peru, including the Galapagos Islands.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Common in shallow coastal waters (Ref. 9338). Occurs in small aggregations over reefs. Feeds by scraping the substrate for coralline red algae, and probably on coral polyps. Only caught occasionally (Ref. 9338).
