Family:  Scaridae (Parrotfishes), subfamily: Scarinae
Max. size:  35.6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 20 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: found only in the Hawaiian Islands. Occurrences outside Hawaii are all misidentifications.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits seaward reefs (Ref. 9710). Benthopelagic (Ref. 58302). Grazes on benthic algae. Protogynous (Ref. 55080).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 05 February 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
