Max. size:  10.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia and Europe: northwestern and southern Caspian basin from Kuma drainage (Russia) to Babol (Iran).
Diagnosis:  Flank marbled without midlateral rows of dark blotches. Dark blotches on dorsum often fused. Branches of suborbital spine similar in length.
Biology:  Found on gravel substrate along steep banks of rivulets and streams 3-10 m wide and less than 1 m deep in foothills and plains, sometimes in channels (Ref. 59043).
