Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Kochi Prefecture, Japan to Taiwan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 89-99; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 69-79. Similar to P. gigantea but differs from it by a small mouth (3.3.to 3.9 times in head length), few scales on the lateral line, few pectoral rays, and pale snout and jaws.
Biology:  Inhabits sandy mud bottoms (Ref. 11230).
