Family:  Sternoptychidae (Marine hatchetfishes), subfamily: Sternoptychinae
Max. size:  5.59 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range - 200 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean. Western and Central Pacific: including Indonesia. There are no records from the central or eastern Indian Ocean and parts of the western Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-18; Vertebrae: 33-34. Dark dorsal pigment bar posterior to head but not reaching midline (Ref. 4054).
Biology:
