Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range - 1023 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: collected off east coast of the Philippines and in the central Philippine Sea near the Kyushu-Palau Ridge.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal soft rays: 11-12. Polyipnus fraseri is distinguished from all other Polyipnus by the presence of a unique posterior preopercular spine, absence of ACA photophores, and only four ACB photophores at SL over 2 cm (Ref. 26382).
Biology:  Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
