Max. size:  6 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 15 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific. from the Ryukyu Islands to the western coast of Sumatra; east through the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-9. Description: Characterized by brown color; pair of brown spots behind eye; cheek and operculum with orange patch; irregular dark lines on forehead; dorsal and anal fin whitish with large blackish area on posterior lobes; dorsal fin with orange tips and black submarginal stripe; pair of large black spots on base of caudal fin; blackish central region and orange marks on caudal fin; pelvic fins yellowish; tubed lateral line scales 18-21+9-15; midlateral scales series 23-25; predorsal scales 9-11; cheek scale rows 4-5 (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Adults are found under corals in lagoons (Ref. 559). Usually occur in water shallower than 3 m on reefs, or in tide pools (Ref. 27772). Eggs are guarded by the male parent (Ref. 205).
