Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Widespread in Lake Malawi, Lake Malombe and upper Shire River.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Commonly found in shallow vegetated areas, rarely over rocks. Feeds on invertebrates and frequently moves in small groups in search of food (Ref. 5595).

Threat to humans:  harmless
