Family:  Peristediidae (Armored searobins or armored gurnards)
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range - 476 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Somalia to northern Natal, South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-20; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 20-23. Color in alcohol: body grey, mottled darker above; prominent black blotch at tip of pectorals; dusky margin at base and dorsally in axil of pectorals; dorsal spines, rays and margin of fin black (Ref. 6630).
