Family:  Percidae (Perches), subfamily: Etheostomatinae
Max. size:  11 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: found only in the USA from Edisto River in South Carolina, south to southern central Florida (almost to Lake Okeechobee) and west to Mississippi River in Louisiana.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits headwaters to medium-sized rivers, usually over gravel or sand (Ref. 5723, 10294). Feeds on midge, blackfly, mayfly, and caddisfly larvae (Ref. 10294).
