Max. size:  16.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 16 - 100 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean, RĂ©union and Mauritius.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 7-7. Distinguished by having the following characters: 15-16 pectoral fin rays; gill rakers 6-7 + 23-24 = 29-31; body depth 3.25-3.7 in SL; head length 2.8-2.85 in SL; snout length 1.7-2.1 in HL; barbels 1.35-1.55 in HL; dorsal spine, longest 1.75-1.85 in HL; penultimate dorsal ray 1.05-1.2 length of last dorsal ray; pectoral fin length 1.2-1.35 in HL; pelvic fin length 1.3-1.35 in HL; pink with a band (black or deep red) from upper end of gill opening to below rear base of second dorsal fin; base of second dorsal fin with a broad black band (Ref. 54393).
