Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  33 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 5 years
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Susquehanna River, New York to James River, Virginia, USA; Great Lakes basin, New York in USA, and Ontario in Canada to Michigan, USA; Ohio River basin in New York to eastern Illinois and south to northern Georgia and Alabama except absent in southwestern Indiana, western 2/3 of Kentucky, and most of western Tennessee, USA. Introduced in Ottawa River system in Ontario; also present and possibly introduced in upper Santee River in North Carolina, Savannah River in South Carolina and Georgia, and Coosa River in Georgia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rocky runs and flowing pools of small to medium rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205).
