Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Cichlasomatinae
Max. size:  7.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 5.5
Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin, in the Tocantins and Xingu River basins.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  The collection area was described by Werner (1990:55-58) as a small stream south of Sao Jose do Xingu (NRM 14605) - a narrow blackwater creek widening at the collecting site and in places 1 m deep; the bottom substrate was sand and mud in part with dense stands of aquatic plants; temperature was 22°C, pH 5.5, conductivity 5 μS. Specimens were taken from quiet shore areas with reed and grass (Ref. 86444).
